crunchyroll announced the acquisition of the five-part animated series BASTIONS from Korean producers Thymos Media. Its premiere is scheduled on its platform on Saturdays from May 13. Global broadcast rights extend to all countries except China, Japan, Hong Kong, Taiwan, North Korea, and South Korea.
“crunchyroll is facing an extraordinary opportunity to introduce fans to more styles of animation from Asia, and this exciting new series from Korea does just that. And having the music of so many K-pop stars really broadens the appeal of BASTIONS.”said Asa Suehira, Crunchyroll’s Head of Content.
BASTIONS is about a group of rookie superheroes in a world where superheroes compete for popularity. The dynamic youngsters emerge as full-fledged heroes after saving Earth from crisis by discovering the identity of a villain responsible for environmental pollution.

The series mixes K-Pop and animation and features several original songs from the genre, the most exciting being the theme song performed by BTS. This is BTS’s first project as a group since they released their anthology album Proof in June of last year. BASTIONS will also feature music by K-pop girl group Le Sserafim and singers Heize and AleXa participating in its soundtrack.
“BTS is expected to bring an overwhelming sense of immersion to the series’ emotions and action scenes by singing the theme song in perfect harmony.”said Thymos Media.
