It’s hard to believe that Gohan is the son of Goku in the universe of dragonball. While Goku has experienced extraordinary growth, even coming to compete with the Gods of Destruction in Dragon Ball Super, Gohan has chosen to lead a normal life on Earth and has rarely spent time training. Being Goku’s firstborn and belonging to a line of Saiyan warriors, the question arises as to whether Gohan is letting his father down.
Let’s start with the very nature of Goku. He has grown up on Earth since he was a child, so he has not embraced the Saiyan traditions like Vegeta, the son of the Saiyan King. We can tell that Goku has been proud of Gohan since the beginning.
In Dragon Ball ZFor example, Goku confesses to being surprised by Gohan’s prowess in combat, especially when he tasks him with the mission of defeating Cell. Things don’t stop there, because Goku even recognized the value of Gohan having a better life as a student.
It should be added that the anime does not do justice to Goku regarding his relationship with Gohan. We already know that he practically abandoned him to continue fighting in the universe while Gohan passed into Piccolo’s care. In the Freeza Saga, when Gohan complains about being so weak, Goku appears to encourage him and support him in whatever it takes.
Another example is when Gohan lost to Krillin before the Universal Survival Tournament. Goku appointed Gohan as team captain, as he was confident in Gohan’s abilities. It was thanks to Gohan’s leadership that the Universe 7 team made it through the first half of the tournament. Goku witnessed this achievement and he was proud all along.
